NDP: Latest Liberal scandal a throwback to past Liberal scandal days

October 15, 2015

The NDP issued this press release Thursday, October 15, 2015.

(Val Caron, ON) Nickel Belt NDP Candidate Claude Gravelle isn’t surprised by the latest Liberal Scandal.

“Every time we hear of a Liberal scandal, it reminds the voters why we cannot trust the Liberal Party,” says Gravelle. “For Justin Trudeau to have his Campaign Co-Chair providing advice to a pipeline company on how to influence a new government shows that this ‘new edition’ of the Liberal Party is really no different from the Chrétien-Martin edition.”

Gravelle was reacting to news that Liberal Campaign Co-Chair Dan Gagnier sent a detailed email to the company behind the Energy East pipeline outlining “advice on how and when to lobby a new government.” Daniel Gagnier is also facing a possible investigation by Lobbying Commissioner Karen Shepherd.

“In a recent interview, the Liberal candidate in Nickel Belt is quoted as saying, “I really feel strongly that the last 10 years the Liberal Party lost its way and Justin Trudeau has brought new life to the party.”

Gravelle would like to know, “Is this sort of behaviour by the current Liberal Leader’s Campaign Co-Chair Mr. Serré’s idea of ‘new life’ in the Liberal Party? Because from where voters and I sit, this is pretty similar to the days of the scandal-ridden governments of Jean Chrétien and Paul Martin,” concluded Gravelle.
