Wouldn't a more effective means of minimizing the misuse of taxpayers money by politicians would be to abolish the senate, and enlarge the house of commons by 105 seats, which would make MPs more accountable to their constituents rather than leader, political party or campaign contributor due to lower cost of campaigning?
I want Bill C-518 passed
I want Bill C-518 passed.
I understand that you, John Williamson, a Conservative MP from New Brunswick, have introduced Bill C-518, a private members bill that would take away the pensions from people like Lavigne or any federal politician who is charged and convicted of defrauding taxpayers.
The Bill specifically states that any conviction of those who were MPs or Senators on June 3, 2013 will result in loss of their parliamentary pension. Which means that as long as the bill passes, Harb and others, if they are convicted, would lose their pensions, even if they resign.
We need your help to make this bill a law. We need the Harper government to adopt your private members bill as a government bill and pass it as soon as Parliament resumes this fall.
Thank you for sending me your note to let me know that you support my Private Members Bill (C-518). I've heard from hundreds of other Canadians who feel the same way we do. Politicians who steal from taxpayers do not deserve a taxpayer-funded retirement.
I was wondering if you would help me spread the word by writing a letter to the editor of your local newspaper? That is a very good way to get even more people interested, and hopefully get their support too.
Also: You can download a pdf copy of my petition in support of Bill C-518 at the following link: bit.ly/17ODIHz
Signed petitions can be mailed postage free to your local MP, or directly to me and I would be happy to present them to the House of Commons on your behalf. My mailing address is:

I support that approach Danny. But, at least something is happening through this Bill to address the Senate scandal. However, as you note, there is much more that needs to be done to clean up Parliament and put power back in Canadians' hands.
Bill C-158 is a terrific idea and I am flattered that it is a replica of a letter I had published from coast to coast. It shows that letters to the editor matter and have an impact. I just wish the conservatives would read a little more of my work. Hat's off to all and Merry Christmas. For the record here is the origin of Bill C-518. http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/10/18/make-changes-in-law-to-better-se...
Thanks for the comment Roy. Feel free to publish or republish any letters, op-eds or blog posts you have written to UnpublshedOttawa.com. This site was created to help people share their ideas.
It's a common sense bill. Hope it passes.
